This brown sugar body scrub is the perfect way to treat yourself to a spa day at home. It exfoliates, moisturizes, and evens out skin tone, too!
Exfoliating – It Makes A Difference In Your Skin
Do you ever have that one thing you just really hate to do as part of your beauty routine? That one thing you talk yourself out of doing because its too time consuming, doesn’t really make a difference, isn’t worth it? For me that was always exfoliating. I way underestimated the power of exfoliation until I finally forced myself to try it regularly and saw such a difference in my skin! I have dry skin on my forearms that borders on eczema but isn’t quite there. I’ve tried close to a million creams, lotions, and washes and nothing ever got rid of the red bumps. Until I started exfoliating. The difference really was unbelievable!
The Best Natural Body Scrub – With Brown Sugar
When I made the switch to using as many all natural products on my face and body as possible I took to the magical world of the internet and found so many recipes for homemade body scrubs. I tried a few, reading up on what the different ingredients can do for your skin and my favorite by far has been this brown sugar scrub. I’ve played with the amounts over the years based on what works for me and the consistency I like. You’ll get the hang of it after you mix it up a few times.
How much does it make?
This made just enough to fill up a 4 oz mason jar and it lasts for forever. A little bit goes a long way.
All-Natural Ingredients
This body scrub has just 3 simple ingredients:
- Brown sugar
- Olive oil
- Honey
I like these ingredients versus some of the others that are out there because olive oil is a natural moisturizer. It sounds counter-intuitive that oil would moisturize but believe me it does a spectacular job.
Honey evens out your complexion and brown sugar is an exfoliant with grit between table salt and sea salt. I like it better than regular sugar because it doesn’t have those anti-clumping chemicals in it.
DIY Gift Idea
I gave this as a gift last Christmas to my aunt and cousins and they immediately asked for the recipe once they’d tried this scrub. And now it’s one of my go-to homemade gift ideas. But with spring in full bloom around here and summer coming soon I know my skin will be short sleeve ready with this amazing exfoliating and moisturizing scrub!

If you use this as a face scrub, would you follow it with a face wash or just rinse it off?

If you substitute coconut oil - would it be best to use liquid or natural/solid coconut oil?

You would probably want to substitute fractionated coconut oil to mimic the olive oil and keep it from being a solid block.

I did not expect this to work as well as it did. I had these bumps on my shoulders and I decided to exfoliate in the shower with this scrub since I had all the ingredients at home and it worked wonderfully well! My skin felt so smooth after the shower and the bumps were gone! The olive oil and honey were very moisturising too and I feel like using brown sugar worked much better than raw or caster sugar since it's softer and more gentle on the skin but still 100% effective.

Hi Ebony :) I've never made a batch big enough to require preservatives be added so I'm not sure when it would be best to do this. I hope you give this scrub a try and love it! xo

Iām curious if I could sub out the brown sugar for coconut sugar?

I've never used that but I'm sure you could. Just be careful if coconut sugar is more abrasive than brown sugar you wouldn't want to use it on your face.
