Queso dip is one of my favorite ways to eat a tortilla chip. And this homemade chipotle cheddar queso dip does double duty as a delicious snack and supports small business!
It’s that time again y’all. Monthly Ingredient Challenge time.
And even though we’re a few days late I promise that we’re bringing the thunder! Or, you know, the cheese. I want to confess that I purchased six packages of cream cheese trying to decide what I was going to make for this round. Six! I kid you not.

I made this chocolate cream cheese frosting for a friend’s birthday and briefly considered waiting to use it for this challenge. But when all I could think of to make with cream cheese was nothing but a sweet dessert I was determined to create something savory.
Hence the six packages of cream cheese.
Once the 4th of July is over it’s just one long, slow countdown to football season at my house and I’ve already got tailgating and party snacks on the brain!
In May we visited a local craft fair and happened upon this stand, SnS Dips & Gifts, that sold dip mixes. Uh, duh. Support local business, people! So I bought a bunch of mixes and asked them if I could blog about them and they graciously agreed.
I bought a few sweet mixes and several savory ones that erred on the side of spicy. The cheddar chipotle jalapeno mix is what I used for this queso dip and it was perrrrrfect. Just the right amount of heat, perfectly creamy, and tastes great on tortilla chips!
You could serve it with veggies or chicken tenders, too. And I plan on adding it to my enchiladas the next time I make them and it’ll probably make an appearance in a Mexican casserole I’ve got in the works, too 😉

Otherwise put together your own chipotle seasoning mix and serve this up at your next tailgate or end of summer party. Cause this would probably go great with a margarita and who doesn’t love a good margarita? No one, that’s who.
- 1 packet SnS Dips Chipotle Cheddar Jalapeno Mix
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 6 oz velveeta cheese
- ⅛ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup milk
- Cut cream cheese and velveeta into 1 inch cubes and add to a small saucepan over medium-low heat and stir until melted.
- Once melted add sour cream and milk and stir until creamy.
- Add in the SnS Dips mix and stir until completely incorporated.
- Serve warm with tortilla chips, chicken tenders, or any other delicious cheese vessel of your choice!
