Crock pot orange chicken is a Chinese take out recipe you can make at home with just five ingredients and your slow cooker!
My ridiculous obsession with Chinese food never gets more real than when I crave it but don’t have the money to go out and buy any. So when that happens I have to whip it up at home, which inevitably leads to me discovering some new and delicious recipes. It certainly made me a fan of homemade hibachi and then there was the lo mein. Heaven!
My favorite part about this recipe is that its stupid simple with only 4 ingredients {5 if you wanna count the chicken} and the crock pot does all the work! Then you just serve it over fluffy white rice or alongside lo mein and make your Chinese-loving heart happy for eternity. or until you run out of leftovers. Whichever comes first.
I find it kind of funny how much I love this recipe considering that I have never in my life ordered orange chicken in a restaurant before. Now I’ll never have to with this baby in the arsenal. Take that Chinese take out! Plus this is just in time for your Chinese New Year celebrations. I never really thought much about Chinese New Year outside of what I did for my preschool kids when I was teaching until I worked as a nanny for a Chinese-Korean family who celebrated it every year.
They were very proud of their Chinese heritage and each year around the holiday my sweet little charge would ask me to read her favorite book that talked about all the traditions and the meaning behind them. She especially loved the page that had a picture of all the foods they would eat as part of their feast. I don’t recall orange chicken being in the picture but there’s nothing wrong with new traditions, right?
So whether you’re celebrating Chinese New Year or just jonesing for some take out try this super simple crock pot recipe and you’re sure to be impressed!
