DIY weddings are all the rage as couples prefer to spend less on their big day. Try this super cute DIY wedding favor for just pennies per guest!
I know that most people have Labor Day on the brain today but since my best friend is getting married in T-minus 6 days I’m elbow deep in wedding everything. She’s making the cutest s’mores favors for her guests but it got me thinking about other super simple and adorable DIY wedding favors {that you can eat!} that won’t break the bank.
When my oldest cousin got married she had these crazy adorable mini vials of honey as wedding favors as a play on a childhood nickname. They were so cute but my aunt and cousin informed me they were less than fun {read super sticky} to put together. My younger cousin married a gardener and they gave away little succulents in tiny pots. So cute! But not something that pertains to everybody.
So I took this opportunity and burst of creativity and desire to make things as easy as possible for all you DIY brides out there and came up with something crazy cute AND simple AND cost effective. You’re welcome. I’m all about the cutesy sayings so “We go together like sweet & salty” was almost a no brainer. I sat around for awhile trying to figure out just WHAT sweet and salty combo I wanted to use. Caramel corn? As much as I love it, the sweet generally overpowers the salty. Chocolate dipped pretzels are fun and simple but, as I told my roommate, “so over done”. And then duh…trail mix! Salty nuts and sweet chocolate and raisins make this my absolute favorite road trip snack in the history of road trip snacks.
I played around with making it from scratch but I figured that it would be more cost effective to just buy it premixed. If you want it to be ultra customized, by all means make it yourself. That way you can add whatever nuts/seeds/sweet things to it you want. But if you’re just going for cute and DIY and inexpensive and you’re not worried about controlling every single ingredient that goes into it then the store bought kind’ll do ya.
I used these clear 4″ x 6″ bags I found on Amazon and filled them with 1/2 cup of trail mix. This only filled them about 1/3 of the way so I folded the bag down a couple times before stapling the printable on. You could get a slightly smaller bag but I couldn’t find any that weren’t just slightly smaller and not in mega bulk. Like these 3″ x 5″ bags that I could only get in a case of 1,000. Uhh…no thanks.
I got 15 favors out of one 44 oz bag of trail mix. At about $7 per bag of trail mix plus $5.49 for 100 bags these adorable and easy favors end up being right around 50 cents a piece. How’s that for a cost effective DIY wedding favor?!

These are so cute! Although, were I to attend a wedding with these as the favor, mine likely wouldn't make it home. I love edible favors so much more than a tchotchky no one ever uses.

I always take the little tchotchky and never ever keep it more than a month or two so I feel like they're mostly a waste of money. Consumable is always better!

This would be a fun and healthy favor for birthdays! Kids get enough cake and ice cream at the party no need to send them home with more sugar :)
