Moving is hard work, y’all.  No matter how many times I do it it always feels just a tad bit overwhelming.  Like there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done and I always, always feel like I’m forgetting something.  If you go all the way back to the first time I moved when I was 2 months old then I have moved a total of 12 times in my entire life.  And five of those moves were within 6 years of each other.  That’s a lot of boxes and packing tape.

Considering how many times I’ve moved and how obsessed with lists and printables I am I’m pretty surprised that I haven’t done this before now.  But the biggest move I’ve ever made has inspired me to be just a smidge more organized this go ’round.  And so far it’s working out pretty well!

Moving can be complicated because there are so many different parts you have to think about all at once.  And the best way to alleviate any tearing of hair is to be as organized as possible.  If your boxes are organized then the movers know where everything goes and they can work faster without needing someone {namely you} to stand in a central location and direct boxes to all their different locations.  If you’re selling, trashing, or donating stuff before moving then you’re not packing unnecessary items that will either never be used or worse, never unpacked at your new home.  If you’re moving from an apartment or rental property you’ll have to clean and sometimes by the time all your stuff is moved out you barely have the energy to drive to your new house, let alone remember everything you have to clean at the old one!

So I’m helping y’all out with this one.  I’m laying down some awesome printables that will keep you organized the next time you have to move so that all your hair stays on your head 😉  So now you’re just dying to know where I’m moving to, right?!

Drum roll please……….Michigan!  My dear friend Nicole from Little Blog on the Homestead has been trying to convince me to move to Michigan for awhile and one day I just…decided to do it!  An amazing opportunity was presented to me and I decided to latch onto it with both hands, take a leap, and go!  It’s equal parts exciting and terrifying.  And I’m not quite sure how this southern girl will survive in yankee territory but I’m pretty pumped to find out.

The car is mostly packed and the boxes are stacked up in my old bedroom for my family to bring to me in the summer time.  And in just 3 days I’ll be setting out on my newest, and arguably, scariest adventure.  And I couldn’t be more excited!  Don’t worry, I’ll still be blogging on and you’ll probably hear a whole lot more about this move of mine in the coming weeks!  I’ve also got some guest posts coming your way from awesome friends who have been nothing but supportive and helpful while I do the craziest thing I’ve ever done!

Before you go, don’t forget to download your free moving printables!

Thanks for the tips for making a move smooth. You're right, it can be frustrating, and there never seems to be enough time in the day. However, your cleaning checklist and "what goes where" checklist are two really good ideas. I will have to try those out next time I move.

This are very useful tips for moving. making a checklist on what to do is a great idea. I would also like to add that if you're planning to hire movers to do the job, its best to do a background check on the moving company before hiring them. in order to avoid getting ripped off by bad movers.

I agree with you that moving is hard work! I've had to move a couple of times, and every time I end up having a major stress attack! I like the graph that you posted! I need to be better at trashing, selling, and donating. I'll take your advice and do that more often!

Like you say, moving can be overwhelming because of the many different aspects to organize. I think helping the movers by organizing things into boxes is a great way to expedite the process. Plus, it will help you get through the process faster!
