With my favorite holiday behind us its full steam ahead to the next one.  Thanksgiving!  While I’m not much of a Thanksgiving person my mom and sister are and so every year I experiment with different recipes.  Like that one year I was trying to lose weight and made a bunch of Weight Watchers recipes.  They were not fans.  And two years ago when I made {or tried to make} some fancy schmancy chicken appetizer that took too much time and wasn’t that good.

Sometimes you just need to stick with that tried and true stuff and leave the experimenting for date night.  Keeping that in mind one of my favorite appetizer recipes involves brie.  Brie is probably the best cheese anyone has ever invented.  Its creamy and mellow and you’ll find dissenting opinions on what temperature to serve it at but I like it served both hot and cold.

The first time I ever had brie was with my best friend at the beach.  We had just graduated college and were trying to be all grown up and fancy and ordered a baked brie with raspberry spread appetizer.  Instant, lifelong love.  That sweet jam paired with the creamy, salty brie.  Om nom nom.

So at this very moment you’re sitting there giving me a weird look because you can’t decide why this recipe has cream cheese in the title and I’m going on and on about brie.  Sometimes brie just isn’t in the budget.  So I’m bringing you a budget friendly twist on my favorite appetizer.

I decided to amp up the standard raspberry and do a red pepper jelly type twist with this recipe and the sriracha works perfectly to give it a spicy but not overpowering kick.  The lime juice brightens the whole thing and the cream cheese is a good creamy brie substitute.

We served this with butter crackers but I think it would also taste good with your favorite wheat-type cracker or pita chip.  I think my favorite thing about this recipe is that you probably have all these ingredients on hand already!  How’s that for budget friendly?

Made this today with the neufchatel cheese (has 1/3 the fat of cream cheese) organic raspberry preserves, and lemon instead of lime and some club crackers. Came out amazing!!!
