If you’ve got a sore throat then whip up a cup of this sore throat tea and you’ll be back on your feet in a flash!
Natural Sore Throat Remedies
It never fails that when I get really sick I get a sore throat and some kind of chest yuck. We can thank my giant tonsils and asthma for those. I’ve been looking for something more natural to help fight the symptoms.
Gargle Essential Oils
The bestie recommends gargling her essential oils protective blend. And it works, it really does. But it smells terrible and tastes worse. From the moment it drops into the water and the smell hits me I dread swishing it around in my mouth, gargling it in my throat, and then swallowing. Bleh. It’s a taste that lingers.
When the sore throat is really bad. Like strep throat bad. I’ll suffer through the almighty protective blend because it works. And pretty quickly, too. Not just for sore throats it’ll also usually knock out whatever I’ve got going on like aches, cough, you name it. No one was more surprised than me, The Nyquil Queen, when it worked way better than expected.
Drink Sore Throat Tea
However, when I’ve got just a little baby sore throat, and nothing ibuprofen can’t fix, I opt for this tea. It works every time for minor throat irritation and usually within 24 hours. Plus it tastes miles better than that protective blend 😉
Ingredients
There isn’t actually any tea in this concoction. I know! It’s crazy, right? But this mixture is incredibly soothing. The ingredients are:
- Water
- Lemon
- Honey
- Cinnamon
My sister uses this tea when she gets sick. Which happens a lot as a vocalist. The brightness of the lemon and the sweetness of the honey and the spice from the cinnamon make this delicious but mild tea. You don’t even have to use actual tea if you don’t want to. I never do. Which type of tea is best for sore throats?
If you did want to steep tea I suggest something herbal like a lemon tea or my favorite winter tea called Winter Spice from Twinings of London. I’m not sure if you can get it outside of winter time in your grocery store so stock up because it works great for sore throats no matter the season! Stay away from black or caffeinated teas, especially if you’re drinking this before bed to help you sleep. But generally any tea you like that pairs well with the flavors of lemon, cinnamon, and honey will work!

You can. Milk will coat your throat so it will definitely help with that but the acid from the lemon might curdle it and turn it into buttermilk. I would recommend adding the milk and stirring it in before you add the lemon juice.

I'm afraid I put way too much cinnamon or it didn't dissolve properly, is it supposed to not be fully dissolved?

Mine doesn't always fully dissolve at first so I like to keep my spoon in my mug so I can continue stirring. The lemon juice can also do weird things like congeal at the bottom of the mug if you let it cool to room temperature. (I found this out the hard and gross way lol)
