Light and fluffy dinner rolls in the bread machine are a snap and only need about 10 minutes of hands on time!
A couple weeks ago my roommate tagged me in one of those viral video posts on Facebook where you get to watch someone make something in about 2 minutes. Heaven bless whoever invented those because I am addicted. It usually takes me awhile to get around to trying a lot of the posts I’m tagged in but with the holidays coming up I thought this one would be good to tackle right away.
I’m not sure about anyone else but around here having a roll or biscuit with dinner is not an everyday thing. In my mind they’re kind of special or extra and generally served on holidays. But naturally you can’t just have a regular dinner roll, right? Because cheese makes everything better.
I’m not much of a bread maker. I guess I just don’t have a knack for it because even my roommate teases me that I can’t even make bread in a bread machine. However, I rocked socks with these rolls AND they were made in a bread machine! Boo-yah! This should probably cue you that they’re super simple if even I can do them without messing them up.
If you don’t have a bread machine you could make them completely by hand or using the dough hook in your stand mixer but I won’t pretend to know exactly how long you should knead it to get the same result. You could even decide to leave out the cheesy center if you wanted a more traditional roll. I absolutely will be making these when we have friends over for Thanksgiving, too!
I used mozzarella cheese sticks for my cheesy center but I think that next time I’ll probably use mozzarella cut off the block because the cheese sticks held their shape vs getting really ooey gooey which, let’s face it, is my favorite type of cheese 😉
Do you like rolls and biscuits for every day or just special occasion?
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 Tbs sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cups bread flour
- 1 Tbs active dry yeast
- 4 in mozzarella sticks cut 3rds
Add ingredients to the bread machine in the order listed or as recommended by your manufacturer. Set to dough setting then allow to rise for 1 hour in the machine.
Remove dough from the machine and form into a ball. Cut dough into 12 equal pieces using a large knife or bench scraper.
Wrap dough around piece of cheese then tuck ends in and roll in your palms to form a ball. Lay dough in a glass baking dish with sides touching and allow to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
If desired, brush rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with herbs before serving.
