Chocolate and peanut butter come together yet again in a classic mash up in this chocolate peanut butter smoothie!
I have really been on a peanut butter and chocolate kick lately. It’s in the back of my mind for my birthday cake {yes, I like to make my own birthday cake!} and I’ve been playing around with using these two flavors in different ways. A couple weeks ago a friend introduced me to PB2 which is basically powdered peanut butter. All the peanut butter flavor with something like 1/4 of the fat. And it really does taste JUST like peanut butter.
So when I was searching for some sweet inspiration over at That Square Plate and I saw her berry layered smoothie I knew I had to layer my two loves: chocolate and peanut butter into a delicious smoothie that’s healthy enough for breakfast but delicious enough for dessert. And I did!
The first couple of times I made this I used peanut butter, so I’m here to say that if you don’t want to purchase PB2 {it certainly ain’t cheap} then regular peanut butter will work just as well. I’ve also never put water in a smoothie before but it created the perfect texture without changing the flavor. You could, of course, also use milk or a substitute like almond or soy milk. Either way you can’t go wrong. I mean hello! It’s chocolate and peanut butter!
I can’t really do the whole fruit smoothie thing, something about the texture gets to me but these yogurt based smoothies with things like protein powder and PB2 for flavor are right up my alley. So far I’ve tried vanilla, chocolate, ice cream sandwich, and white chocolate. But if you have any other protein powder flavor suggestions tell me all about ’em! For now I think the roommates have put a hold on my protein powder spending since my jugs are kind of taking over the south end of the counter 😉

This looks so pretty! Peanut butter and chocolate are a favorite combination of mine, but I usually just mix the pb2 with my chocolate mocha protein powder. I want to give this layered cheesecake version a try.

Thank you! I really like how layering the flavors changes the taste as you drink it. It's fun!
