Easy Christmas Countdown

This cute and easy DIY Christmas advent calendar is a fun way to get the kids excited for Christmas!

I was talking with a friend the other day who was wondering what she could do with her kids to count down to Christmas without having to go out and purchase an advent or other countdown calendar. She challenged me. And I’m not one to back down from a challenge! She wanted something she could make using stuff she already had on hand. I thought this was the perfect way to kick off my 12 Days of Homemade Christmas series!

From print to finish this whole thing took me less than 30 minutes. So even though I’m behind the 8 ball on this it’s so quick and simple you can make it, put it up, and finish the fun activity for day 1 no problem! Your kids will have so much fun punching through the paper to discover the activity inside you’ll probably have to keep them from poking through every day at once! I’ve even included a free printable for you with all my activities but you can also just write your own on a slip of paper and use those instead.

Supplies

Brown kraft paper or wrapping paper
1 mini muffin tin
Scissors
Tape
Sharpie
Christmas Countdown Activities Printable {or use your own!}

Directions

1. Cut out the printable activity circles and drop one into each mini muffin cup.
2. Cut a piece of kraft or wrapping paper about 1/4 to a 1/2 an inch wider than your muffin tip and wrap it around the edges like you’re wrapping a present, secure it with tape.
3. Using your fingertips find the little cups and number the cups 1 to 24

And you’re done! I used the kraft paper because it’s what I had on hand after making some DIY envelopes I can’t wait to show you! But I think that this would be equally as fun to use wrapping paper, too. Poke through the paper with your finger and fish out the fun activity to complete with your family each day 🙂
